Jay-Z

Jay-Z

With the release of his new album “Magna Carter Holy Grail,” Jay-Z may have further established his dominance in the entertainment industry. His nickname, Hova allegedly given to him to describe him as the “god of the rap game,” now applies to more than just music.

Hova’s quest for world domination has continued recently with his expansion of his entertainment company, Roc Nation. From recording artists like rapper J. Cole to professional athletes like Kevin Durant, Roc Nation has started to gain popular clients in all aspects of the entertainment industry.

Roc Nation’s most recent venture?

A multi-million dollar deal with Samsung to pull a new kind of digital marketing stunt.Samsung bought one million copies of Jay-Z’s album so users of the Samsung Galaxy S III, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note II could download an app to get the album three days early on a first come, first serve basis. It debuted as #1 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Interestingly enough, only four days after the release, Jay-Z ended his 2013 twitter hiatus to randomly answer fans. According to Mashable, he was mentioned 325,000 times in 24 hours and gained more than 46,000 followers. His 100-plus responses included hashtags (#mylaugh and #factsonly) as well as shout outs to Miley Cyrus, naturally.

The response hasn’t been completely positive though. The app raised questions about privacy as it requested access to your private information and evoked some negative responses. Some fans (such as rapper Killer Mike) said, “Naw I’m cool,” while others are calling for an investigation by the FTC.

Like him or not, “H to the O-V” is changing the entertainment industry, and we’ll just have to wait and see how this possible investigation affects his reputation.
